Early Birds Camp

I'm very excited to have the opportunity to offer a satellite camp for children 4 and 5 years-old. The Early Bird Camp will be held at the Tree House! The backyard and magical forest surrounding the Tree House offers the young child an oasis to play and discover. Access to the environmental center for reading time, visits with the box turtles and native fish aquarium offer children memorable experiences.
We welcome Rachel Schwartzman! Rachel will head up the Early Bird Camp that will run simultaneously as the Sassafras Camp, - one week in June, and three weeks in August.
Rachel has been working as a teacher in progressive schools for the past 15 years, as both an art teacher and a classroom teacher.   Recently, her work has focused on supporting the early childhood programs at The Brooklyn New School through creating a Forest School program and developing a rich arts program.  Her work is deeply inspired by the materials rich and play based approaches from Reggio Emilia Italy and the outdoor learning environments in Sweden.  Since her recent return to her hometown Philadelphia, Rachel has been bringing arts and nature- based programming to preschoolers at the Big Backyard Nursery School and the Children's Community School.

"I have the most peaceful feeling inside when I know that my child is spending the day at Indigo Arts. I know he is safe, loved, and free to explore the woods and create his own magic under Kim's watchful eye and in the company of children who know they are free. As a parent and educator I am so moved by the healthy mind-body-soul atmosphere Kim creates. I wish I could go! Thank you for making a place that stays in the hearts of children long after they leave - a place where childen love to return."
